Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
We are currently twelve points above third from bottom thus comfortably clear of that scrap.

At the same time we are currently five points from top position and we have a positive goal difference.

Whilst being realistic about our proper place in the EPL pecking order let’s not be too “Sir Alf” about how we are doing.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
If we won the next two games we’d be on 26 points and close to the top.

Good game this. Ifs and buts.

The could sell Haller and use that money.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
As someone else says below, we are only 3 are 4 points from being just above the relegation scrap places.

If we had 4 points less, we'd still be 8 points above the relegation line. Hardly just above.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
Agree Russ but they wont. King is probably the only one we have a chance of bringing in and he has hardly featured for Bournemouth ( probably because they know he's off ) so will need a mini preseason.

GSB tell us they are skint just like they told us they would reinvest all the Diangana, Ajeti and other sales money ( 26 million ) on players.... they didnt.

Thanks for repeating me , Russ.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
I'd throw in there we need another central midfielder, if either Soucek or Rice get injured then we're very short there.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
I'll try that again

If Sullivan gets the chequebook out and gets us a striker that Moyes can work with, gets some more goals to our style of play then there's no reason we can't have a good crack at getting into the europa league spots or at least be in the equation come the final 5/6 games. BUT this is Sullivan so let's all enjoy the ride whilst it lasts.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
Hopefully we can maintain this form into January where we will see what our owners do.

we have already lost Antonio to injury. Now Arthur gone. Luckily we have been relatively injury free apart from that. My worry is this paper thin squad is too close to a crash and burn. We pick up a few more injuries, suspensions and tiredness / loss of form we could drop like a stone.

The owners need to go out in January and get a left back, defensive midfielder and goal-scorer. Then we can kick on.

Faux, I’ve thinking that, but not our load.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
The sidebar WHO Poll has it about right with the 8th to 14th option. As someone else says below, we are only 3 are 4 points from being just above the relegation scrap places ( an achievement in itself with the squad we have). The unexpected could happen I guess but it depends on no injuries to key players because we have no adequate replacement for Oggy, Rice, Soucek and arguably Fabianski too, we have no left back of the right quality now ( Cresswell not up to it any more even if he was a few years back ) and we have 1 forward.

Too many things have to go for us and that just does not happen to West Ham.

But like I say, if we are not in a relegation struggle that is real progress.

Never said we'd get dragged into it, we're miles away from that.

I'm saying we're not going to finish in the top 5, I'd say realistically top 8 if we continue the good form - We've been fortunate with injuries up until Antonio and Arthur, if we get a few more we'd struggle so we massively need to invest in Jan, can't see it.

Right now i am.just enjoying us being nearer the top and Arsenal.being nearer the bottom. My brother-in-law (Gooner) is very quiet these days.

plenty of times we've gone in to the new year in a great position, and then downed tools. we just need some luck with injuries and the head dwarf helping moyes if he wants a player or two

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
yeah BUT. The reason why we are getting ahead of ourselves is the way we are playing an also pulling off results. If that stops then we can all be FUCK OFF MOYES you useless twat types. If we win the next two matches the SPUNKING on here will be elephantal.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
Im with Block here. Not that I am going to eat his hat. I just think we have to be careful we don't start counting our chickens. When we reach 40 points then we can have a look at where we are in the league and start making targets then. Until that time I am just grateful we're not in the bottom 3, where I thought we'd be at Christmas.

Re: Maintaining a top 5 league position
Block
sadly you are right. Although I doubt we are going to get sucked into the relegation scrap this season, it wouldn't take much for us to tumble down to about 13th or 14th by the end of January
